What Is a Port?
A port is an arbitrary number representing a TCP/IP service
Full Internet service address = numeric TCP/IP address + port
Conventions establish normal use of port numbers for services
Common ports include HTTP (80), FTP (21), Telnet (23), POP3 (110), SMTP (25)
